(Psa 33:12)  Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

America’s roots are in God and His word and because we began that way God’s hand of blessing has been upon this nation and the many who have found refuge in it and owned it as their own land. The Scripture is clear, “blessed is the nation whose God (Elohim – the all-powerful Creator of all) is the LORD (Jehovah – the self-existing One). A sign recently mistakenly read: “Blessed is the nation whose God is their Lord.” This could mean any country that worships any god – such as Arab countries or India and etc.

America’s boundaries were established by the Founders of this nation – Godly Christian men and God-fearing men – who knew that any nation is doomed that does not put the Creator God first and the truths of this Creator God into the very fabric of a country’s life. So they set boundaries to guide this infant country toward a path of blessing. Some of those boundaries involved the qualifications of those who were to serve in the government – they had to make a profession of faith in Jesus Christ and display a life of change by His power. Another boundary was regarding our education system – the main book (only book for years) was the Bible. They knew that people needed to be able to read God’s word if they were to maintain the proper boundaries. But those boundaries have been moved or removed -- (Prov 22:28) “Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.” So, who do we blame for their removal?

It seems today when we vote for public officials we vote for the lesser of evils and not a Godly or Christian candidate. Is it that there are no Christians or Godly men or women to run for those positions?

To be sure, the devil and wicked men had a hand in it, but the problem has to be laid at the feet of the church and the preachers of those churches. It began after the church was brought into the world’s arena by Constantine and soon ungodly men and women were controlling the church and the governments. Instead of true conversions we had false and forced conversions and instead of true righteousness we had pseudo righteousness.

The early settlers in America came here to be free to worship God according to the Bible and their faith convictions and not a state run church and worship. After revival fires spread across the colonies men and women saw the truth of Godly men and women needed in government and so they established this boundary. But the church and preachers through the years convinced their parishioners that government is not to be sought out by Christians (I guess they thought only the worst of sinners should be in office – and that is what we mainly have today). People were told that Christians could not conscientiously serve as politicians, policemen or soldiers and soon we had sinners and the wicked in these positions. How they came up with these unscriptural ideas is beyond this writer because the plain teaching of Scripture is that God desires the righteous to rule and those who love and serve Him as the governmental leaders and heads.

I doubt we will ever get back to the way our Founding Father began this land, but one day God will establish His kingdom on this earth with Jesus as King and only the righteous as co-regents with Him. Today – in this time period – we determine whether we will be part of that reign.
