Passion week

Luke 19:37-40 And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;  Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.   And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.  And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

On what we call Passion Week Jesus entered into Jerusalem for the last time in His human body taken on in the incarnation at our Christmas celebration. He would be tested with severe questioning each day and finally arrested and crucified. Then on the third day He would rise from the dead and have a glorified human form (similar to what we will have in the resurrection – Phil 3:21).

On this occasion of His entry into Jerusalem He makes an interesting statement to the leaders when they call for Him to rebuke the people who are crying out, “, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.” In all cases prior to this day Jesus told those who followed Him not to tell anyone He was the Messiah; even when He cats out demons He prevented them from declaring He was the Holy One of God.  There must have been a special or particularly important reason for this in light of all the other occasions. Jesus often said that what He did or the Scripture said that it was accomplished so that Scripture would be fulfilled.

There are some passages that are fulfilled on this occasion -- Zechariah 9:9  Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.  This could have been fulfilled without Jesus allowing them to proclaim it, so was there another reason? Some believe that this point in His life is significant to prophesy for Israel and the end times.

In Daniel we are told that -- Daniel 9:25-26 “ . . . from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.  And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: “ Those who are well versed in history and times have calculated that the years from the command to rebuilt and this occasion on Jesus entry into Jerusalem figures to be exactly the time Daniel says it would be. Therefore, if they are accurate, then Jesus’ permission of the people to declare Him as Prince when He rides into Jerusalem is greatly significant and important.

God did not form this world with evolution but created it in a literal six twenty-four hour time period. And He orchestrated this event in order to prove to any doubters that He is the Creator God and he rules over all the affairs of heaven and earth. Have you made Him Savior and Lord of your life?
