Prophecy 19 -- remembering

2 Peter 3:1 (KJV)

1  This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

2 Peter 1:19-21 (KJV)

19  We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

20  Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

21  For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

As we celebrate Memorial Day we remember (or try to get people to remember) what others did so we can have freedom in America. However, the cancel and woke culture is frantically working to destroy any romance of our memorials – they willingly are choosing to forget what others have done so they have the freedom to speak as they do.

Peter writes to remind his readers as well as us today to stir up our memories concerning prophetic events that are given to us in Scripture. He reminds that may willingly reject past accounts of God’s judgment so they do not comprehend the coming future judgment and event leading up to it.

Prophecy is intriguing to many people. Some study it and neglect other portions/doctrines in Scripture. There are numerous and varying ideas of how end time events will occur and when. Peter said we have more sure word of prophecy (the Bible) and we do well to take heed to it as a light shining in darkness until the day dawn and our hearts are moved upon by God. We do not have to be a prophet to predict certain things as we read the Scripture and observe what is happening in the world. Scripture speaks of God’s judgment upon nations that forget Him and it is predictable that when you have historic or record natural events God is trying to awaken that nation or nations. The first Christmas was missed by most even though there were prophecies that foretold the coming of Christ. Why did they miss the first Christmas?

  1. Pride or self-centerness; arrogant about their education.

When Jesus was asked by He taught in parables he told them it was because of a prophecy from Isaiah about the condition of people’s hearts – they were glossed over with sin, pride and self-centeredness. When the magi came to Jerusalem seeking One born King of the Jews, the chief priests and scribes knew exactly where Scripture prophesied He would be. Yet they made no effort to go to Bethlehem and seek the King of the Jews. They were proud of their knowledge and the fame that went with that knowledge, but it did not motivate them to action.

  1. Willingly ignorant

Today many educated people accept evolution and evolutionary lies because they refuse to admit man does not know as much as God and God’s word is beyond man’s word and knowledge -- even when Christ was walking among men and performing miracles they refused to admit they would be wrong (Jn 7:41, 50-52).

No interest in prophetic events --  There are multitudes of people who are so worldly-minded and interested in the world that they simply do not care. Just get me thru problems and let me enjoy myself. They have an “I don’t care” attitude.

The events are clear to those who have eyes to see and ears to hear, but too many have shut their eyes and ears and deny that the times we are living in are prophetic. The minor prophet said, “Prepare to meet thy God.”
