The modern church

Job 42:7 And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.

When we look back in world history we blame Hitler the Holocaust and Nazi expansionism; and Emperor Hirohito for the tragedy of Pearl Harbor and the devastation that followed. But if we focus our blame solely on them, we miss a very important fact – they could not have done anything without the insane loyalty of flowerers. These megalomaniacs were able to convince their followers that a glorious destiny awaited them. Their hate-filled rhetoric and fiery speeches mobilized a multitude of very intelligent people into a path that ultimately destroyed their countries.

You may ask, “What does that have to do with the modern church”? as the title of this post? Simply this: there has been much teaching in the church the last few decades that has brought confusion and anxiety to many people. The teaching is about God being love and it is taught that is His main and primary character quality. A study of the Scriptures reveals that God’s primary character quality and attribute is “Holy”. The three questions of this post are as follows:

  1. Does God have any expectations for His people?
  2. Is God always nice?
  3. Does God leave virgins out in the cold?

In our text verse, God spoke to those who condemned Job when He spoke to Job, saying that those supposed friends had not spoken that which was right of God. These men thought they knew what was happening in Job’s life and attributed Job’s calamities to private and hidden sins. In their perception of God and right, they could not understand that Job was under severe spiritual attack and so they added to the attack from their lack of understanding. God showed up to reprimand these men and also Job by asking questions that God never gave answers to. Some wonder why God did this. The answer is that He is God and does not have to explain Himself to anyone. It is our duty to obey Him.

In the next several posts I will present these three questions and show from Scripture what we should be doing to examine our self in light of them.
