Savior and Lord
Luke 1:47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
Our savior:
One of the most wonderful titles of Jesus Christ is that of Savior. The title is first mentioned by Mary in the text verse when she realizes that the Baby she is to give birth to is none other than God her Savior, thus equating God and Jesus as One in the same.
He came to be Savior of the world (Jn 4:42; 1 Jn 4:14) and of all men (1 Ti 4:10). The blood Jesus shed on the cross is able to save all, but only those who recognize they are sinners and seek forgiveness from their sin and trust in Christ’s finished work will be saved (1 Jn 1:9). His sacrificial death satisfied the justice of God (Ro 3:25; 1 Jn 2:2; 4:10).
Jesus came to save us from our sin and thus everyone that trusts Him for salvation will depart from sin (2 Ti 2:19)
Our Lord:
Jesus is called the Lord Jesus Christ with Jesus being His earthly name, Christ being His heavenly name as “anointed One or Savior” and also “Messiah” and Lord being His title as owner, ruler and master of all. Peter told the Jews that God had made Jesus both Lord and Christ, indicating that He is Owner and Master of all (Phil 2:10-11). He is Lord of all and one day He will sit upon the throne of David on earth and every one shall acknowledge Him as Lord – some will bow and confess before being cast into the lake of fire and others will have confessed Him as Lord before then and enter into the rest in the kingdom.
Our personal Lord:
Paul urges believers to allow Christ to be Lord of their life by receiving Him into their hearts in His fullness (Ro 12:1-2; Eph 3:16-19) as we yield and surrender to Him, He consecrates and purifies for His purposes. We then are able to walk in the fullness of salvation and with a heart and life of surrender to His will.
